HYPEBURNER

Discover New Hip Hop Music

Once upon a time hype men were happy to play the behind the scenes role and allow their itty bit of fame, and teeny ounce of fortune to rise and fall with the "boss" they serve.

No more.

Now'days in hip hop every entourage member is working on not just a record deal but his own set of endorsements.

And in R&B every songwriter is secretly hording the best lyrics for their own debut albums.

Peep songwriter ternt frontman The-Dream, and crew member ternt headliner Jim Jones. They say once you're lucky, and twice you're good, but I'll add that if you're on your fourth album like Jimmy, and you're putting on other artists like The-Dream, then looky there - you have a career!

Well, I think in the earlier days, being a hype man was truly just being a hype man. That was the role you played. Now, because everyone can do the tv dinner get rich scheme in most facets of society-it's to easy to be a hype man. In fact, it's much more glorious to work your way up to the top by starting off as a hype man. Of course some people are better off hype man anyway, i.e Memphis Bleek.
